Day in the life of an Arabic translator at JONCKERS

A day in the life of an English to Arabic translator at Jonckers

Day in the life of an Arabic translator at JONCKERS

My name is Nisreen Alramlawi and I’m a freelance English to Arabic translator.

Nisreen Alramlawi

I found Jonckers through ProZ.com. Jonckers has a good reputation on Blue board and has good feedback from clients. This encouraged me to apply for work with them.

My role is MTPE (Machine Translation Post Editing). This requires me to have a keen eye and good language skills in my native language. Working in the cloud platform, I edit any MT ambiguities and improve the translation into Arabic. I like this role as I continuously learn whilst editing, as I get immediate feedback from Jonckers.

Arabic is the native language in the area I live, near the Mediterranean sea in the Gaza Strip, Palestine. This region has beautiful weather in summer, as well as in winter. Palestine is famous for its olive trees and I believe the best olive oil comes from here. We also enjoy a great reputation for all kinds of citrus and oranges trees. I also like other local produce, like Miramea herbs, which we add to tea as it gives a nice aroma and is good for stomach ache.

Working remotely as a freelancer is very common in my country, since there are many educated people, with only relatively few work opportunities. Working with Jonckers is very interesting. I especially enjoyed the last project I did, which was post-editing translation for a product catalog, with a collaborative group. I can also work when it suits me: any time and any place. During my work as a freelancer for Jonckers, I have had online sessions with coordinators to discuss how the work should be delivered, the tone of voice and branding etc. I enjoyed the opportunity to chat with other freelancers and post-editors about the projects.

I would like to say for all linguists, that WordsOnline is a great platform on which post-editing and revision are made easy by following features. By using WordsOnline you can find a piece of translation divided into segments with context. This context helps you to understand the content and guarantees more accurate editing. Also, you can see the volume of your translation words in the platform, which I like. The Jonckers reviewers see your post-editing work and give you feedback as you are working. We rarely see this immediate feedback with any other platform.

Working from home is very easy and comfortable. This has been even more valuable during the Corona pandemic. Work has been slow during the last 8 months, so I’ve worked more on WordsOnline. Currently in Palestine, as in many parts of the world, we can’t go anywhere without wearing a face mask. We have to follow all the protection procedures to stay healthy and safe. There are also restrictions on wedding parties and children are still not allowed to attend school, so they are trying to learn online.

Working remotely as a freelancer is very convenient for me as both a wife and a mother. I can manage my time well. I balance supporting my kids’ study from home, with going out with my family and doing my work. It’s amazing to have this control, whilst being at home.

I have been working with Jonckers for two years, and I’d like to work together forever. With Jonckers I found very cooperative people willing to answer my constant questions, and I enjoy the easy workflow with WordsOnline. With Jonckers we have open and regular communication with the project managers and working team.

We wish you the best with you and your family’s good health.

I am looking forward to improving my translation skills. I want to develop my skills to suit the world’s requirements, whether it’s in Corona times or whatever life throws at us. I see that the future is in remote online working.

My favorite saying is “the greatest wealth is health”. Stay safe everyone!
